What Kind of Charger Comes With Iphone 11 Pro Max

After years of shipping a 5W charger in the box with iPhones, Apple finally decided to include an 18W fast charger with the iPhone 11 Pro, along with a USB-C to Lightning cable because you need both to fast charging your iPhone 8 or later. Unfortunately, the more affordable iPhone 11 continues to come with a 5W charger.

Let's cut to the chase here: the iPhone 11 series are capable of PD fast charging at around 18W to 22W (that charges 50% in about half an hour). And here's our iPhone 11 Pro Max charging test.

Compatibility Test

1. 18W PD chargers

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Apple 18W PD A1695 charger (iPhone 11 Pro's in-box charger), we are getting 8.99V 1.97A 17.78W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the smallest 18W PD charger - Anker PowerPort III Nano A2616, we are getting 8.79V 1.97A 17.39W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the ZMI 18W HA711 PD charger, we are getting 9.17V 1.97A 18.09W, under PD protocol.
So the iPhone 11 Pro Max offers great compatibility with 18W PD chargers.

2. 20W-30W Range PD chargers

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Apple 29W A1540 PD charger (Apple's first PD charger), we are getting 14.77V 1.72A 25.42W, under PD protocol. The Apple 29W A1540 PD charger only supports 5V and 14.5V, so the iPhone 11 Pro Max choose to charge at 14.5V, which makes the phone significantly hotter than normal 18W PD charging.

Using the Apple 30W A1882 PD charger, we are getting 8.91V 2.52A 22.51W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Anker 30W A2615 single port PD charger, we are getting 8.97V 2.52A 22.66W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Anker 30W A2017 single port GaN PD charger, we are getting 8.91V 2.52A 22.49W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Aukey 27W PA-Y19 single port PD charger, we are getting 8.95V 2.52A 22.62W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Moshi 30W 99MO022116 1A1C PD charger, we are getting 9.28V 2.36A 21.99W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Ravpower 30W PC120 single port GaN PD charger, we are getting 9.3V 2.38A 22.16W, under PD protocol.

So the iPhone 11 Pro Max offers great compatibility with 20W-30W Range PD chargers. However, we don't recommend using the old Apple 29W to charge it because it will make the phone significantly hotter than normal 18W PD charging.

3. 40W-100W Range PD chargers

Using the Xiaomi 45W CDQ02ZM single port PD charger, we are getting 9.31V 2.42A 22.56W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the ZMI 45W HA832 2A1C PD charger, we are getting 8.93V 2.52A 22.55W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Anker 60W A2029 dual port GaN PD charger, we are getting 9.13V 2.41A 22.06W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Baseus 60W BS-CH910 2A1C PD charger, we are getting 9.17V 2.52A 23.18W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Apple 61W A1718 PD charger, we are getting 9.03V 2.49A 22.53W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Apple 61W A1947 PD charger, we are getting 9.00V 2.47A 22.31W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Xiaomi 65W CDQ072M single port PD charger, we are getting 9.23V 2.52A 23.32W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Lenovo Thinkplus 65W PA65 single port PD charger, we are getting 9.25V 2.52A 23.36W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the ZMI 65W HA712 PD charger, we are getting 9.16V 2.52A 23.14W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Apple 87W A1719 PD charger, we are getting 8.99V 2.52A 22.69W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Xiaomi 90W ADC90TM single port PD charger, we are getting 9.23V 2.52A 23.31W, under PD protocol.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

Using the Anker 2A2C 100W A2041 Multiport PD charger, we are getting 8.98V 2.52A 22.69W, under PD protocol.

Conclusion

1. The iPhone 11 Pro Max offers great compatibility with PD chargers ranging from 18W to 100W.

2. The PD fast charging process of the iPhone 11 Pro Max goes like this:

iPhone 11 Pro Max Charging Test-Chargerlab

a) It starts booting up while charging at 5V/2.4A if the charger supports Apple's 5V/2.4A protocol. After booting, it quickly handshake with the PD charger and charges at around 9V/2A from 0-50% battery life for about half an hour.
b) After that, it will hold onto 9V, with the current slowly drops down to above 0A until it reaches about 75% of battery life.
c) Then at the final stage, the charging voltage drops down to 5V, with the current rises to 2A and slowly drops to 0A until the charging is completed.

3. You can charge the iPhone 11 Pro Max while gaming (or other performance-demanding tasks) at around 22W by using a 24W+ PD charger.

4. We do not recommend using the Apple 29W A1540 PD charger (Apple's first PD charger) to charge the iPhone 11 Pro Max, as it makes the phone significantly hotter than normal 18W PD charging.
